ROSWELL, GA — All northbound lanes of Old Alabama Road, from Riverside Road to the roundabout, are closed Tuesday afternoon after emergency repairs began on a sinkhole that developed in the area. In a release, the city said residents who live in Riverwalk will still be able to go to and from their homes. Barriers will be erected Tuesday afternoon to completely close all northbound lanes of River Rapids Drive. City officials ask that drivers do not drive around barriers lest they risk their safety. The city said drivers who usually use northbound Old Alabama Road to travel from Riverside Road north toward Holcomb Bridge Road should seek alternative routes. Drivers should consider using Dogwood Road to the west and Eves road to the east. Eastbound drivers on Riverside Road, meanwhile, will be forced to make a right turn at Old Alabama road and drive southeast on Riverside Road toward Eves Road, the city said. Westbound drivers on Riverside will be forced to turn left and continue northwest on Riverside toward Dogwood Road, the release stated. The city said road repairs are expected to take between four and seven days, but unforeseen conditions could cause the project to expand in scope and duration. Teal time updates on road closures and the progress of Old Alabama Road repairs will be posted on the city's Twitter account.
