Description

Hypertufa is cement based, textured, light weight, and looks like ancient stone. Make hypetufa & pots and small sculptures using it. HYPERTUFA POTS & SCULPTURE (CEMENT + other ingredients) WHEN: February 26 (Sat) and Feb 27 (Sun) TIME: 1:30-4:30 SKILL LEVEL: Beginners, no experience AGE: Adults & teens14+ TYPE OF EVENT: Two day workshop SUPPLIES: All supplies included. Optional to bring forms (see below) or embellishments. FEE: $60 INSTRUCTOR: Patti Kramer desertbrush.com Minimum 3 , Maximum 8Hypertufa is a mixture of cement with organic and inorganic minerals, used to create man-made stone. We will be mixing up our own hypertufa to create pots or sculpture. Pots made from hypertufa are full of texture, lighter in weight, and look like they are made from ancient stone that is eroding away. Because of the added texures, these finished pots also "breathe," making the pots great for succulents, cactus, and other plants that like dryer soil. Pots will be interesting left plain but you are welcome to add other embellishments also. I have broken dishes, tile shards, glass or pebbles you can add, or bring more from home if you'd like. I can show you how to break tiles safely and how to embed them into your hypertufa. You will have time and materials to make approximately one pot 15" wide, two 10" ones or three smaller ones. You are welcome to make more as long as there is time, materials and table space. You are welcome to make small sculptural pieces. One student used hypertufa to make a large turtle last time. She will bring a photo of it.Bring: 1. Forms (optional): We will be pressing the hypertufa mixture inside or outside of a form (bowl, box...) and slipping it off/out when it is hard. I will have some forms you can use but please bring also if you can find some around the house. Mixing bowls, smaller bowls, buckets, plastic or cardboard tubs/boxes, plastic cups, cottage cheese containers all work... I even used the nose of a small airplane once! We will be wrapping the forms with plastic first. Because of that, kitchen mixing bowls etc won't be harmed in the process. Think of how the hardened hypertufa will slip out of the form. If there is an indentation in the walls of the form (like many metal coffee cans), it won't be able to slide out. If you aren't sure, bring it and we'll decide if it will work. 2. Embellishments (optional) (whole or broken tiles, dishes, pebbles) 3. Latex gloves will be provided. Wear apron or paint clothes. Workshop is at Casita Workshop, 127 W Wilson St, Casa Grande, Arizona
