Citizen surveys are a valuable research tool for elected officials and City administration to identify areas our community excels in and areas that need work. It is a tool to gauge resident perspectives, provide insights, and capture valuable feedback. In early 2019, the City of Dunedin surveyed residents utilizing a robust survey delivered digitally and via phone interviews. Approximately 1277 survey responses were recorded. Results of the survey were delivered to the City Commission on April 15, 2019. The Good News...Research showed that 76% of respondents felt Dunedin was an excellent place to live with high ratings in the areas of Library, Parks and Recreation, and Emergency Services. Overall, more than 95% of residents were satisfied with the City's services. The survey was also able to highlight and identify areas of concern, such as growth, parking, traffic, and multi-modal safety. Based on the results in these areas, the City focused on improving the areas of concern. Acton items that resulted from the 2019 survey include providing educational campaigns and did you know information, securing alternative parking options, adding green space, engaging focus groups, developing the Multi-Modal Master Plan, enacting the Historic Preservation Ordinance, developing the Citizens' Academy, revising the land development code and more! To continue working to meet the needs of our residents, the City of Dunedin is conducting a follow-up Citizen Opinion Survey launching on February 14, 2022. The survey will remain open through March 27. The survey questions will closely duplicate those seen in the 2019 version to maintain data integrity. Comparisons between the two year's responses will allow the City to capture the impacts of the work done in the areas of concern, reflect the impact of improvements, benchmark services, and guide the Commission and City Administration for the next several years to respond to resident needs.
