ROSWELL, GA — Roswell Fire Chief Ricky Burnette announced that a firefighter was found dead at a station Tuesday.
"It is with deep regret and sorrow that the City of Roswell Fire Department announces the death of firefighter John Kevin Cash," Burnette said in a news release.
Cash was found dead at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the fire station after inspection of his room. The Roswell Police Department is investigating the incident, Burnette said.
"The Roswell Fire Department appreciates all the prayers, condolences and support during this difficult time," Burnette said. "We ask that you please allow the family and department time to mourn this loss."
Cash had been a member of the McDonough Fire Department since 2001, the department posted on Facebook.
"It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of a brother," the department wrote. "Firefighter/EMT John 'Kevin' Cash passed away this morning while working his part-time job with Roswell Fire Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, daughter, and the rest of his family, as well as his Roswell Fire Department brothers and sisters. Kevin has been a dedicated member of McDonough Fire since 2001 and will be sorely missed."
The details of Cash's funeral arrangements will be posted as soon as they are finalized, Burnette said.
