WAUWATOSA, WI — The Wauwatosa School District, in partnership with the Wauwatosa Parent Teacher Association, is giving back to those in need with a community closet, which provides winter gear, personal hygiene and other basic necessities, the district said.
A kick-off event will be held from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on Saturday at Longfellow Middle School, 7600 W. North Ave.
People can bring donated items such as soap, shampoo, gloves, mittens and other household item to the event. After Saturday, bins will be located at each of the schools for easy donating, the district said.
The district said the following items are in high demand:
New or like-new winter coats and spring jacketsSnow pants/bibs, snow boots and rain boots (size 11c - 11 adult) Gloves, mittens and hatsA school guidance counselor will anonymously request items on families' behalf.
"This is an incredible undertaking - not only in size and scope, but also in terms of the critical need our community has for this type of support," Dr. Demond Means, Wauwatosa School District superintendent said in a statement. "The outstanding effort that our PTA members have dedicated to this cause is inspiring. I'm honored to belong to a community that cares so deeply and maintains such a strong desire to support their fellow neighbors. It's efforts like this that continue to reaffirm my belief in this community."
