Fire Breaks Out At 3-Story Building In Westport: FD

WESTPORT, CT — A firefighter sustained minor injuries as crews extinguished a blaze that broke out at a three-story building Wednesday afternoon in Westport, according to fire officials. In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Nick Marsan said the fire was reported at 2 Post Road West around 4 p.m. When crews arrived in the area, they found heavy smoke emitting from the building's roof. Firefighters searched all three floors of the building to ensure everyone had evacuated, then searched the top floor and attic space for fire, Marsan said. Crews also searched the building's roof amid heavy smoke and found fire under the roof's sheathing, Marsan said. Firefighters then made their way to the roof and top floor of the building to extinguish the blaze. Roads in the area were temporarily shut down while crews extinguished the fire, and one firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Marsan said. Norwalk firefighters assisted with roof operations and Wilton firefighters provided manpower on scene, Marsan said. Crews from Fairfield and Weston fire departments provided station coverage.
