NORTH ANDOVER, MA — It turns out North Andover will have a contested election in 2022 after all, with a second candidate emerging for the open seat on the School Committee ahead of the Feb. 8 deadline.
There are now two candidates running for the three-year seat on the committee, both of whom have run for the office before, according to a final candidate list released by Town Clerk Dawne Warren.
Kevin Dube took out and filed papers before the deadline, joining Joseph Hicks on the ballot. Dube ran in 2020, losing to two incumbents, while Hicks ran in 2021 and came in third in a five-way race.
For the other two seats on the ballot, the two incumbents filed for re-election, with no challengers: Rosemary Smedile for the Select Board and Stephen Long for the Housing Authority.
Candidates have until Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. to withdraw from the election. The election is scheduled for March 29.
