WEST HAVEN, CT — West Haven has canceled its only credit card at the direction of the state's Office of Policy and Management over a "breakdown of internal controls," according to the New Haven Register.
The Register reported that several members of the City Council raised concerns about the credit card at this week's meeting after learning that multiple people in city government were using it without prior authorization.
Mayor Nancy Rossi told the Register that the expenditures associated with the credit card are not unauthorized but that some department heads aren't turning in their receipts in a timely fashion.
West Haven's fiscal policies have come under scrutiny after former Democratic State Rep. Michael DiMassa, who worked as the Administrative Assistant to the West Haven City Council, was arrested last October on accusations that he defrauded the city out of more than $630,000 in COVID-19 relief funds.
