GEORGIA — Traffic crashes across Georgia during the 102-hour-long Thanksgiving holiday travel period resulted in 23 fatal crashes and 24 fatalities reported to the Georgia State Patrol. The holiday travel period began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29. The death tollon Georgia roads doubled from 2019, when 12 people were killed during the same period, AJC.com reported. "This is 22 lives too many," the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety tweeted. Statewide, Georgia State Patrol troopers investigated 604 traffic crashes resulting in 317 injuries and 17 deaths in the 16 fatal crashes investigated. Clayton County Police, DeKalb County Police, Fulton County Police, Gainesville Police, Gwinnett County Police, Peach County Sheriff's Office, and Richmond County Sheriff's Office reported seven of the traffic deaths during the holiday period.
