BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington police and a Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team served a "mental health-related civil warrant" Monday evening near the Woburn city line, Burlington Police Chief Thomas Browne said. The warrant was civil, not criminal, and there was never any threat to the public, Browne said. But the area around Peach Orchard Road was cordoned off around 5:30 p.m. to create a safe perimeter. The department requested help from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council officers "with specialized training in assisting those with mental health disorders, as well as a highly-trained negotiator," Browne said. The subject of the warrant was safely brought to a medical facility, Browne said. There were no injuries. The SWAT team used Marshall Simonds Middle School as a staging area but the school was not involved, the police said earlier. No further details are being released.
