Here are the top 3 stories today in Roanoke: The Christiansburg man who was convicted of shooting and killing another man in Salem has been sentenced to 26 years in prison. Zane Christian appeared in Salem Circuit Court this Wednesday, where he was sentenced for the series of events on Nov. 9, 2020. Christian was found guilty this past October of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle. (WSLS 10)Employees at a Roanoke Starbucks have voted to unionize. The Bridges Starbucks store is one of 85 stores participating in a large labor rights movement that is circulating throughout the 9,000 Starbucks locations across the country. Organizers say they're teaming up with the National Labor Relations Board and the National Starbucks Workers United organization regarding the next steps. (WDBJ7) After weeks of increases in new COVID-19 cases, the Roanoke Valley is seeing the Omicron surge receding quickly. According to the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts Director Dr. Cynthia Murrow, in the last week, her two districts have seen fewer than 100 cases a day.
