Manchester-Based Royal Ice Cream Expands Recall To All Products

MANCHESTER, CT — Royal Ice Cream Company Inc. has expanded its recall over a potential Listeria contamination to include all products made in its Manchester facility. The company first recalled three flavors of its Batch ice cream — vanilla bean, mocha chip and ginger — last week, because of the potential for contamination. On Friday, the company announced a recall of the rest of its products. The recall was initiated after an FDA sampling found Listeria on processing equipment at the facility. The company is currently investigating the cause of the outbreak, the FDA said. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA. Others infected may suffer a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths as well. Affected products will list manufacturing plant number "CT121" or "CT#121" on them.
