GREENWICH, CT — A thief attempted to steal a car in Greenwich this past Saturday, but stopped after they noticed a child in the backseat, according to the Greenwich Police Department. The Greenwich Time reported the incident took place in Cos Cob. According to an announcement from the GPD on Facebook, around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 12, a resident left their car unlocked with the keys inside and went into a store. "The thief saw an easy target and entered the car in order to steal it," the GPD said on Facebook. "Luckily, the thief saw the operator left their child in the car and immediately decided against stealing it." Police said the thief got into another car that was previously stolen. It was chased by authorities in nearby Westchester. The child wasn't harmed, police said. "This incident could have turned out very bad," police said. "Do not leave your keys in your car. This is a preventable crime. Remove the keys and lock your vehicle doors."
