Herndon College Student Helps Raise $1.3 Million For Hospital

HERNDON, VA — To shine a light on the achievements — both academic and public service — of college students from the Herndon area, Patch shares information provided the students' families and Merit News. Each year, the University of Iowa hosts a student-led dance marathon to generate funds for the school's Stead Family Children's Hospital. This year's effort raised 1,361,184.28, which brings the total raised over the marathon's 28-year history to be in excess of $33 million. Ellie Wichman of Herndon was one of more than 150 current University of Iowa students who served in leadership positions as part of this year's marathon. She served as a member on the marathon's finance committee. Lucas Buermeyer of Herndon, who is a member of the class of 2022 majoring in robotics engineering, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2021 semester at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dean's list status at WPI is calculated on the amount of A level courses and projects the students has worked on. The following students from Herndon at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City were named to the fall 2021 dean's list: Noah Walker of Herndon, whose major is listed as undeclared.Samuel Clyne of Herndon, whose major is listed as pre business BS.Lucas Robins of Herndon was one of the more than 650 cadets and students recognized for their academic achievements during the fall 2021 semester at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Gold stars are presented to students who earned a 3.7 graded point average or higher during the awards parade on Jan. 28. Kelly Harmison of Herndon was named to the president's honors list and the dean's list for the fall 2021 semester at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut.
