Description
In recognition of the tremendously positive impact that local nonprofits like Herndon Village Network are making on the lives of senior citizens, the U.S. House of Representatives has proclaimed February 15, 2022 as National Village Day. One of the six original Villages in Fairfax County, Herndon Village Network provides senior citizens with free transportation, which enables them to age in place and remain connected with the community. This February, show your love for older adults in the area by making a tax-deductible donation at https://herndonvillagenetwork.org/donate/ or by volunteering as a driver at https://herndonvillagenetwork.org/volunteer/.
Having served area seniors since 2015, Herndon Village Network is part of a national movement of over 300 Villages, which began 20 years ago with the launch of Beacon Hill Village in Boston, MA. Today, the Village model serves as a cost-effective, sustainable solution for healthy, vibrant aging. In addition to being recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives this year, Herndon Village Network and its sister Villages in Virginia have been celebrated every February 13th since 2018, after the Virginia General Assembly unanimously approved a resolution to observe the date each year as "Virginia Village Day." Given the friendship, kindness, and support that Villages provide older adults every day, February is a perfect month for celebration.
