STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — The Great Backyard Bird Count, an international event that encourages birdwatching across the world, is coming to Stafford County this weekend. Widewater State Park in Stafford County will host an event this weekend for birdwatchers across the region. The Great Backyard Bird Count encourages people to spend at least 15 minutes birdwatching, and logging the birds they see or hear. Participants can log their sighting on the eBird mobile app or by emailing information to [email protected]. Participants at Widewater State Park can also deliver physical copies of their log to the visitors center. Widewater State Park will host events throughout the weekend, including ranger-guided tours. The guided tours will meet outside the visitors center just before 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. "Widewater is a great park to observe the birds due to the diversity of the population in this area," Widewater State Park manager Paul Anderson said. "The forest of the park is also diverse and that helps attract a variety of birds." More information about The Great Backyard Bird Count and how to participate at state parks around Virginia is available online.
