DANBURY, CT — Police locked down schools and businesses Tuesday morning following a report of a man in the area with a handgun.
At around 10:30 a.m., the Danbury Police Department received a call from a resident trying to locate a "despondent" relative, Det. Lt. Mark Williams said. Police said they were informed the relative harbored thoughts of suicide, and was last seen driving away from his home.
Police searched the area, and located their quarry at a residence on Moran Avenue. Believing the person was armed with a handgun, the investigators closed down the neighborhood.
"Per department protocol, businesses and schools in the area were notified and secured until the person was contacted and provided with services," Williams said.
The relative surrendered to police officers on Moran Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Schools and businesses have since resumed normal operation.
