Phone Scammer Posing As U.S. Marshal Robs Man In Westfield Of $4K

WESTFIELD, NJ — A man in Westfield received a phone call from a scammer on Friday who tricked him out of $4,600, according to Westfield Police. While in Westfield, a resident of Highland Park answered a call from someone claiming to be "Jason Tiller" of the U.S. Marshals and as the U.S. Treasury. According to police, the male caller had a distinctive accent, possibly sound like he was from India, and demanded the Highland Park man to withdraw $4,600 to keep law enforcement from arresting him. The man withdrew the funds and was then instructed to transfer the funds to "Bitcoin" and send them to an unknown recipient. He is now at a loss of $4,6000. Westfield Police advise residents to call the department if they feel they are being scammed.
