Arvada City Manager To Retire In October: City Officials

ARVADA, CO — The City of Arvada announced on Tuesday that its city manager will retire this year, effective on Oct. 7. Mark Deven has spent 41 years working in local government, 11 of which were as Arvada's city manager, according to a news release. Prior to serving as the city manager of Arvada, Deven served as the city manager of Woodland, California. Before that, he served as the assistant city manager of Concord, California. During Deven's time as Arvada's city manager, he worked to align initiatives and plans with City Council priorities and implemented financial plans that enabled Arvada to receive a AAA Bond rating, a measure of the city's overall financial stability, the news release said. Deven also worked to make improvements to water, wastewater and stormwater systems and completed several infrastructure projects. "Mark Deven has delivered excellent service to the Arvada community, our City Team and the City Council throughout his 11-year tenure with the City," Arvada Mayor Marc Williams said. "His passion for public service is evident every day. On behalf of the entire City Council, we wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement." Over the next several months, the news release said, the City Council will work with the city's human resources team to begin a recruitment and selection process for Deven's replacement.
