Hello everyone, My name is Karla and I am posting this to share my nephews story. He was born on Oct 1st 2020 with a rare heart disorder called transposition of the great arteries. Day one they had to place a balloon to help his heart, day 4 he went into opening heart surgery. Today 10/27 he had to go and get opened again because they punctured a nerve and his left diaphragm is higher than his right so they had to open him again to help his diaphragm and lung again.he already has suffered from infections and pneumonia.... Let me tell you what transposition of the great arteries is. Transposition of the great arteries is a serious but rare heart defect present at birth (congenital), in which the two main arteries leaving the heart are reversed (transposed). The condition is also called dextro-transposition of the great arteries. Transposition of the great arteries changes the way blood circulates through the body, leaving a shortage of oxygen in blood flowing from the heart to the rest of the body.
