MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Mercer County man was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and other offenses after he shot his ex-girlfriend at a gas station in Hamilton Township, police said.
On Feb. 10 a Trenton woman was shot once at the Pioneer Gas Station at 2101 South Broad St., in Hamilton. Responding officers provided immediate aid to the woman, who was shot in her lower right torso, police said.
The woman identified her ex-boyfriend, Shakur A. Wright of Trenton as the shooter, against whom she has an active restraining order, police said.
Detectives from the Hamilton Anti-Crime Unit and the New Jersey State Police Crime Suppression Central Unit began trying to locate Wright, using the addresses the woman gave them, authorities said.
He was taken into custody on Feb. 11 in Asbury Street, Trenton. Authorities said that a handgun used by Wright in the shooting was also recovered near the scene.
He was taken to Mercer County Correction Center and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, violation of a restraining order among other offenses.
The woman is currently in stable condition and expected to survive, police said.
