New Mural Coming To Arundel Center In Downtown Annapolis

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — A new mural will be painted in downtown Annapolis, officials announced last Friday. The artwork will decorate the southeastern wall of the Arundel Center, the county government's office building located at 44 Calvert Street. The blank wall is about 45 feet tall and 65 feet wide. The project is part of the county's push to beautify its properties through public art. The design may reflect Anne Arundel's history, culture or future. "The mural will create major, positive impact on the existing street scape," stated Jeff Amoros, a spokesperson for County Executive Steuart Pittman. "Designs should emphasize those unique attributes that make Anne Arundel County the 'Best Place for All'." The county asked interested artists to submit their Phase 1 applications by Friday. Anne Arundel County residents will get preference. The muralist selected will earn $60,000 to cover the associated salaries, costs and fees. Jurors plan to pick an artist by April 15 and approve a final design before May 15. Painting will begin in mid-June and conclude by the end of August. The project is sponsored by Anne Arundel County, the Annapolis Arts District and the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. More information is posted here. The application is available at this link.
