Here are the top 3 stories in Charleston today: The South Carolina Aquarium announced that Charleston Coffee Roasters will be the lead sponsor of the Nutritional Care Program, which will aid in sustaining the large animal population in the aquarium. Charleston Coffee Roasters' support of animal nutrition is seeking to positively impact the lives of the Aquarium's permanent residents as well as foster more support for the treatment of sick and injured sea turtles currently residing in the Sea Turtle Care Center. With their support, the aquarium and its animal care team will be able to provide more resources, like food and vitamins, that the animals need. (holycitysinner.com)Charleston city leaders are taking the next steps in building a sea wall as a flood prevention project. The $1.1 billion Coastal Risk Management Project is planning to build a sea wall around the peninsula in order to help reduce damage caused by flooding and storm surges. Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg, said "It incorporates protection not just against a storm surge, but also against tidal flooding and drainage concerns when it rains." (WCBD News 2) The Medical University of South Carolina announced that the seven-day average of new COVID cases for the Tri-County is dropping at a rapid speed. MUSC Team Leader, Michael Sweat's team found that as of Feb. 15, the seven-day average for Berkley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties combined was 44 cases per day, per 100,000 people. MUSC says that just a month ago, the Tri-County's seven-day average for these counties was peaking at 416 cases per day, per 100,000 during the Omicron-driven surge.
