LONG VALLEY, NJ — Bartley Road was partially closed for several hours on Tuesday because of a fatal accident, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. Meghan Knab — a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office — told Patch in an email statement Tuesday night that Washington Township police contacted the prosecutor's office about the fatal accident, which involved two vehicles. Police told prosecutors the crash happened at about 9:40 a.m., south of South 4 Bridges Road, Knab said. Knab said she could not provide further details on Tuesday, with the accident under active investigation. Bartley Road was initially blocked at 9:56 a.m. between North and South 4 Bridges Roads, because of the accident, with drivers told to use alternate routes, according to information initially posted by the police department. Police announced the road closure at 10:22 a.m. at the intersection with Coleman Road, Chancellor Way and North and South 4 Bridges Road. The road was reopened at 1:45 p.m. Lt. Mark Niemynski — a spokesperson for the police department — said in an email statement to Patch at 1 p.m., more information would be made available about the incident once the investigation has been completed. At 11:09 a.m. on Tuesday, dispatchers called Long Valley fire, fire rescue and EMS back to the scene to extricate one of the people who had been in the accident, requesting no lights or sirens to returning crews. The call can be heard here. The original call at 9:33 a.m. was for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Another call to first responders came at 9:37 a.m. with "confirmed entrapment" and a "possible unconscious person." At 9:41 a.m. another call was made to fire departments to set up a medevac landing zone. The landing zone at Palmer Park was canceled at 9:45 a.m. in this call. This is a developing story. Patch will provide updates when available. Questions or comments about this story? Have a news tip? Contact me at: [email protected].
