Public All-Girls' 'Leadership' School Is Floated In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Not since the closing of the storied Joseph Battin High School in Elizabeth in 1977 has New Jersey had a public all-girls' school. But the Jersey City school district is considering opening one for girls in grades 6-12 starting with grades 6 and 7 in September, NJ.com reported last week. Interim Superintendent Norma Fernandez told the outlet that admission to the Jersey City Leadership School for Young Women would not depend on scores and grades, but instead would be open to all girls who want to attend. The school would be managed in a partnership with with Leading Young Women, Inc. and the Student Leadership Network, Fernandez said. Read more here.
