RHODE ISLAND — A widespread ice cream recall includes several popular brands sold in Rhode Island. The products, made by The Royal Ice Cream company, could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall was first issued last week. At that time, it was limited only to certain pints of ginger, mocha chip and vanilla Batch Ice Cream. The expanded recall includes a variety of brands sold in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New York, Louisiana, Florida, Texas and New Hampshire.
Affected products have the manufacturing plant number CT121 or CT#121 and are not past their expiration date. The following products were included in the recall:
Batch brand: pints, all flavorsRoyal Ice Cream Brand: half gallons, pints, cakes, all specialtiesRonny Brook Ice Cream: all flavors, pints and three-gallon tubsNew Orleans Ice Cream: all flavors, pints and 2.5-gallon tubsMaple Valley Ice Cream: all flavors, pintsArt Cream: all flavors, pintsSweet Scoops Yogurt: all flavors, pintsGelato Fiasco: all flavors, pintsBiggy Iggy's Ice Cream SandwichesMunson Chip Wich ice cream sandwichesGiffords Ice Cream: all flavors of ice cream sandwichesChewy Louie Ice Cream: ice cream sandwichesSnow Wich Ice Cream SandwichNewport Creamery: Crazy Vanilla, Vanilla and Chocolate, Vanilla and Coffee, half gallons only So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall. Listeria monocytogenes are organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
