HOBOKEN, NJ — Two drivers in Hoboken were charged with driving while intoxicated in the last few days — one of whom hit parked cars and caused an injury to his passenger, police said. The Hoboken police said that Aquil White, 26, of Elizabeth, was charged on Saturday with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and assault by auto. Police said that around 10:15 p.m., Officer Anthony Rutkowski called in a motor vehicle crash at the corner of Second and Bloomfield streets in which airbags were deployed. Police say the crash involved a motor vehicle that struck parked cars. Officers Christopher Soto and Joseph Lupo responded along with medical units. Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons responded and administered a field sobriety test to White, the driver. He was arrested, charged, and later released to a responsible party. The assault by auto charge was based on the passenger suffering bodily injury, police said. But neither person in the car was transferred to the hospital. Also, around 4:45 a.m. on Friday, police arrested a Hoboken man, 32, for driving while intoxicated. The man was also charged with reckless driving, refusal to submit to a breath test, and failure to stop. Police said that Officer Daniel Barron observed a Honda CRV fail to stop prior to entering the intersection of Fourth and Adams Streets early Friday morning. Barron began to follow the vehicle "which was swerving to the point it almost struck parked vehicles," police said. Barron stopped the car. Officers found an empty vodka bottle in the vehicle. The driver, a Hoboken resident, refused to provide breath samples at headquarters, and was charged. He was later released to a responsible party.
