COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL —In an attempt to reduce tickets and traffic stops, the Cook County Sheriff's Office is hosting a free event for residents needing to get their vehicle lights repaired, a spokesperson told Patch. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon in Independence Park at 3700 175th Place. In November, officials said the event drew its largest turnout ever with more than 60 participants pre-registered. Mechanics from the sheriff's office will be on hand to fix or replace taillights, headlights and license plate lights. "These repairs help to avoid tickets, fees, and traffic stops all while improving road safety," a spokesperson for the department wrote in a statement. Members from the Cook County Sheriff's Community Engagement Team will be at the event along with volunteers. Officials said the program is part of the department's commitment to non-traditional law enforcement programs.
