HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. INCIDENTSTHEFTA heavyset man wearing all black clothing stole a tool box from behind the counter at the AT&T store at 59 Skokie Valley Road prior to noon on Feb. 7. The box likely contained screen protectors and the estimated loss was reported to be between $100 and $200. CAR BURGLARYSomeone burglarized an unlocked Acura parked in a driveway in the 900 block of Marion Avenue during the night of Feb. 7 or morning of Feb. 8, but nothing was reported missing from within. SHOPLIFTING ATTEMPTA man in gray sweatpants and a black jacket tried to steal about $77 worth of items by walking past the self-checkout area of the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, at some point prior to 10:30 p.m. Feb. 8. THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE PARTSThree catalytic converters worth an estimated $7,500 were stolen from work trucks parked in the 1400 block of Skokie Valley Road between 6 p.m. Feb. 8 and 5:30 a.m. Feb. 9. Police reported two people in athletic clothing were seen left behind two 9-inch saw blades. HOME BURGLARIES Someone broke into a home in the 1200 block of Sherwood Road by forcing open the front door at some point prior to 4 p.m. Feb. 9. It was not known at the time of the report what, if anything, was stolen from inside.On the afternoon of Feb. 10, police were told someone had damaged a back door and ransacked the second floor of a home in the 1200 block of Lynn Terrance. It was not known if anything was stolen at the time of the report. ARRESTS/CITATIONS Luis A. Sanchez, 24, of the 700 block of Sheridan Road, Highwood, was arrested around 2 p.m. on Feb. 13 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and failure to give information after officers were called to a report of a crash at Green Bay Road and Vine Avenue, where police said a car struck a snowbank. Sanchez was also issued citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver.
