WESTLAKE, OH — Former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is now a full-time firefighter in Westlake.
During a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, Miocic, 39, and two other firefighters were welcomed to the Westlake Fire Department. The former UFC champion was previously a firefighter in Valley View.
"We've been very fortunate over the years that we have had very, very good people in the Fire Department," Mayor Dennis Clough said. "And I don't mind saying that I'm proud of these guys every single day because of the skills they bring, the positive attitude they bring and the passion that they have for the career that they've chosen as a firefighter/paramedic in the City of Westlake."
Miocic broke the record for most consecutive title defenses at the heavyweight level in UFC before battling Daniel Cormier in a memorable trilogy of fights, which the Northeast Ohioan won. The 39-year-old has a 20-4 record, according to the UFC website.
There are currently rumors that Miocic will return to the octagon in the future to fight Jon Jones.
