Press release from the Chicago Public Library: February 16, 2022 The Voices for Justice series engages authors, artists, thought leaders and other experts who spark conversation around the topic of social justice and represent the diversity of Chicago's communities. Voices For Justice will engage authors, artists, thought-leaders and other experts that spark conversation on the topic of social justice. The series will kick off with a conversation with WNBA champion Candace Parker in February and continue with other keynote speakers and events, including: Candace Parker: 6 p.m. Monday, February 28 Six-time WNBA all-star and two-time WNBA champion Candace Parker will join in conversation with ABC 7 anchor Dionne Miller in celebration of African American Heritage Month. Mikki Kendall: 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 30 Activist and Chicagoan Mikki Kendall will appear in conversation with Block Club Chicago's Jaime Nesbit Golden. Kendall is the author of several books, including the best-seller Hood Feminism, which was named one of CPL's Best Books of the Year in 2020. Harold Washington Centennial Celebration: 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 This program will focus on celebrating the life and legacy of Mayor Washington in honor of his 100th birthday. Hosted in partnership with the Harold Washington Legacy Committee. Margo Jefferson: 6 p.m. Thursday, April 28 Critic Margo Jefferson, author of the memoirs Constructing a Nervous System and Negroland. Jefferson is a Pulitzer Prize winner for Criticism and known for writing on jazz, culture and literature. This series builds on CPL's rich history and expertise in developing programs, services, exhibits and collections that explore ideas and engage the community in transformative discussion.
