BROOKLYN, OH — A Hampton Inn hotel near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport evacuated Wednesday morning as brown smoke shot through the roof. Firefighters were battling the blaze on Tiedeman Road in Brooklyn, Ohio, around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Parma Fire Department told WEWS-TV the blaze began on the fourth floor. Strong winds create difficult conditions for firefighters. Northeast Ohio was under a wind advisory and flood watch until 7 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service said the area could see south winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. "Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result," the alert said. Photos and video posted on social media showed orange flames burning on the top floor of the hotel. Firefighters used a ladder to spray water over the flames. Live video provided by WKYC-TV showed severe damage to the roof of the hotel, which had multiple holes and major smoke scarring.
