CARLSBAD, CA — Carlsbad's District 1 residents will get to choose Tuesday which candidate they want to represent them on the City Council. The special election was added to the March 3 primary ballot to fill the vacancy created when former Councilwoman Barbara Hamilton resigned in October. The term expires in November 2022. There are three candidates on the ballot: Cori Schumacher - current councilwoman who has held an at-large council seat since 2016Simon Angel - lifelong resident and retired AT&T technician, installer and repairmanTracy Carmichael - former Carlsbad Unified School District trustee District 1 includes the city's oldest and most densely populated neighborhoods, the Village and the Barrio.
