PTSD - Trauma and Trauma Informed Approaches in Behavioral Health Description of Course: This course provides an introduction to trauma and trauma-informed approaches in behavioral health and human services.Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:• define individual trauma• identify examples of traumatic events• understand the behavioral, physical, and psychological effects of traumatic events• recognize principles of trauma-informed approaches• understand recovery as a realistic goal in the treatment of trauma 2 CEU's available for Counselors and Social Workers This training will be hosted by Sertoma Centre's Community Mental Health and Counseling department. Our department provides psychosocial rehabilitation, community support, and therapy services for Medicaid funded or private pay clients. As a whole, Sertoma Centre strives to provide opportunities that empower individuals with disabilities to achieve personal success. In working with a variety of mental health issues/struggles, we hope to not only serve the consumers of our treatment services, but also the social support systems that they rely on. Because our consumers' support systems play an integral role in their recovery, our Community Education Deparment provides free mental health education and prevention programming to community members and professionals. Trainings have been provided to high school students, college students, residence life staff of colleges/universities, university police officers, church congregations/staff, and the staff of social service agencies. We are committed to educating the community about mental illness and reducing the stigma that often surrounds such topics.
