Drawing is the foundation of Art and is an essential practice for every artist! I have a firm belief that anyone can learn to draw and "talent" is really just another word for "dedication and passion"! In this course, we will focus on the techniques set forth by the Ecole Des Beaux Arts, a French Academy that turned out some of the best artists of the 19th century. Working from Drawings by Charles Bargue and from Classical Casts, you will have the opportunity to learn the techniques of Sight Size and Comparative Measurement in order to accurately draw what you see...and have fun! Working in Graphite and Charcoal, students will learn the language of the line and the beauty of these traditional mediums. You will feel like you are transported right into a French academy! This class is designed for all levels. Not sure this class is for you? I encourage you to just drop in for a few sessions and give it a try! This drawing course is an invaluable tool for any artist. Juri Umagami born in Tochigi Japan, has always gravitated to art making. A prodigy, she started painting at Usukubo Yuji Art Atelier in Japan when she was only 8 years old. At 22 she moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her goal to be an artist and art instructor. She has been studying under master painter Cheryl Kline in her academy for several years, as well as with several other visiting masters to learn the techniques of classical figure drawing and painting as well as Renaissance painting. She is also in her final year of study at Otis College of Art and Design in the Fine Arts Program. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Los Angeles and is a sought after artist for portrait painting. We are taking the right safety precautions to combat this Virus, everyone who attends the school is vaccinated and we take temperatures at the door for safe measure! She has won numerous awards including an Honorable mention from the Portrait Society of America for her classical realist work. She studied with master artist Jan Saether at The Bruchion School of Realist Art and at The Florence Academy of Art in Italy. Kline has a BA Degree in Commercial Art from Woodbury University.  Not all art schools are built the same. We are often surprised to find long-time art students, who are still trying to learn how to paint! That's why our founder Cheryl made her motto, "your frustration ends at our front door." Many colleges have become focused on teaching art in a conceptual and historical manner, while many smaller art programs are teaching art in a paint by numbers fashion where everyone does the same painting or offering arts and crafts style classes with little, if any, technique.  At Kline Academy though, you will learn real time tested skills that you can use in your work whether you are taking classes for enjoyment or are working towards a professional career in the arts. These skills have been passed down from teacher to student for centuries and our instructors have traveled the world studying under the living masters of our time, so that they could teach them to you.
