RICHFIELD, MN — The Minnesota Special Redistricting Panel Tuesday released the state's new congressional districts. Members of the panel were appointed by the state Supreme Court because the Minnesota Legislature could not agree on new maps following the 2020 United States Census.
Richfield will remain in the Fifth District and will continue to be represented by Democrat Ilhan Omar.
"I've always taken pride in the fact that the 5th District is one of the least gerrymandered Congressional Districts in the country. I'm pleased to see that remains the case in these new maps," Rep. Ilhan Omar said in a statement Tuesday.
"I'll miss the parts of the 5th that are moving. And I look forward to continuing to represent my constituents in Congress."
Hopkins and parts of Edina will no longer be in the Fifth District, following redistricting.
