Davidson COVID-19 Update: 360 Cases, County Sees Rise In Spread

DAVIDSON, NC — Coronavirus spread in Mecklenburg County increased to 34,019 confirmed cases and 390 deaths, Mecklenburg County Public Health reported Friday. In Davidson, 360 cases were confirmed and seven deaths. Friday, MCPH reported that in the past week, an average of 197 lab-confirmed infections were reported, up from the 14-day average of 194 confirmed infections. Hospitalizations are also rising in the county, as well as the percent of individuals testing positive. As of Friday, it was 6.2 percent, compared to 5.1 percent reported Oct. 16. The news comes as North Carolina public health officials reported 2,809 newly confirmed coronavirus cases, increasing the state's tally of lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases to 271,830. COVID-19 has taken the lives of more than 4,332 North Carolinians, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported Friday, an increase of 49 deaths since Thursday. As of Oct. 30, there were 1,196 coronavirus patients hospitalized in North Carolina hospitals, 15 more than reported the day before. Of those currently hospitalized, 334 were COVID-19 adult ICU patients. As of Friday, there were 29 COVID-19 clusters reported in K-12 schools in North Carolina and nine active clusters at child care centers. DHHS defines a cluster as five or more lab-confirmed cases that are linked. At least 375 positive COVID-19 cases were associated with school clusters in K-12 schools and at least 434 positive cases and three deaths associated with child care centers. Globally, more than 45.1 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 1.1 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Friday. In the United States, more nearly 9 million people have been infected and more than 228,000 people have died from COVID-19.
