DAVIDSON, NC — At least 14 Mecklenburg County residents died from coronavirus illness in the past week, according to data released by county health officials. As of Nov. 6, spread of COVID-19 led to 35,628 confirmed cases and 404 deaths, Mecklenburg County Public Health said. In Davidson Friday, 389 cases were confirmed and seven deaths, according to North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The tally represents an increase of 29 cases for the town in span of 7 days. SEE ALSO: New Record Number Of COVID-19 Cases Reported In North Carolina Friday, MCPH reported that in the past week, an average of 216 lab-confirmed infections were reported, up from the 14-day average of 206 confirmed infections. Hospitalizations are also rising in the county, as well as the percent of individuals testing positive. As of Friday, it was 7.0 percent, compared to 5.1 percent reported Oct. 16. The news comes as North Carolina public health officials reported 2,908 newly confirmed coronavirus cases, increasing the state's tally of lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases to 288,569 and marking the single largest jump in cases in a day for the state. COVID-19 has taken the lives of more than 4,582 North Carolinians, DHHS reported Friday, an increase of 34 deaths since Thursday. As of Friday, there were 36 COVID-19 clusters reported in K-12 schools in North Carolina. DHHS defines a cluster as five or more lab-confirmed cases that are linked. At least 417 positive COVID-19 cases were associated with K-12 school clusters, DHHS said. Globally, more than 48.9 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 1.2 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Friday. In the United States, more than 9.6 million people have been infected and more than 235,000 people have died from COVID-19.
