Two-Vehicle Wreck Shuts Down Stretch Of Highway 43 In Northport

NORTHPORT, AL — A two-vehicle wreck involving an 18-wheeler had both lanes of U.S. Highway 43 blocked by emergency responders near Paul Howell Road in Northport Tuesday morning. The semi-trailer involved in the Tuesday morning wreck (photo by Ryan Phillips, Patch.com) At the scene, a jackknifed tractor-trailer could be seen in the middle of the normally-busy highway, while a little more than 100 yards to the south, an SUV had apparently been engulfed in flames after coming to a stop in a ditch. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said in a press release Tuesday morning that the call of the wreck came in at 6:09 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Responding agencies included ALEA, Carroll's Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Northport Fire Rescue, the Northport Police Department and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
