WOBURN, MA — The probable cause hearing for seven Woburn students police are seeking to charge in connection with the alleged assault in September of a freshman football player has been postponed, the attorney for the player said.
One of the accused students' attorneys requested a continuance to the hearing, which was granted, attorney Peter Hahn said. The new hearing date is not yet available, but it will not take place until March, he said.
At the hearing before a clerk magistrate, Woburn police will seek criminal complaints for charges of assault and battery against the seven students. as first reported by the Boston Globe. Police are seeking to additionally charge one student with indecent assault and battery.
The Globe reported in December that the freshman said he was attacked in a locker room and grabbed by the genitals in an incident caught on video following a September game. The report said the freshman was then harassed for months both physically and through text messages, leading to him dropping out of school out of fear for his own safety.
Woburn police first confirmed in October that they were investigating an incident involving members of a high school team.
