DAVIDSON, NC — The Town of Davidson's Board of Commissioners is set to meet Tuesday to discuss a number of issues, including a proposal for the space that was formerly the Health Home Economist grocery store on Griffith Street. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall Board Room at 216 S. Main Street. Among the items included on the agenda for the meeting are a report on the sale of Continuum broadband cable company, extending water service to the Davidson Commons East development site and rezoning of the town's commerce planning map to accommodate a church moving into retail space on Griffith Street. CFA Church, which currently operates the town's only Assembly of God church under a lease agreement with Our Town Cinemas, is seeking to acquire the former grocery store located at 261 Griffith Street. Plans would include a 350-seat auditorium. According to a town staff memo detailing the issue, the church has previously "received mixed feedback" from commissioners. "While recognizing that religious institutions are a valuable component of Davidson, the applicant's request is specific to a site specifically identified as commercial/retail," the memo said. "Committing the space to a religious use for the long-term would limit future commercial/retail opportunities on the site." Here is the full list of topics to be discussed at the Jan. 14 meeting: Continuum sale status report Consider adoption of a resolution to approve the design and construction CFA Church conditional planning area: Pre-development consultation Consider adoption of the Davidson Comprehensive Plan Consider approval of Davidson Cottages water extension request with conditions Discuss proposed request for purchase of town owned lot on Armour Street The full agenda with details and links to supporting documents may be found here.
