Description
I have a 1 year old Harlequin Great Dane, Blue/grey eyes, unspayed, who needs a new home. Pictures available after a conversation. Google gives a similar depiction when you search for harlequin great dane - except she is much cuter. :) She is a loving, sweet family dog. We have a home with young kids. Excellent guard dog. Very friendly with other animals, wary of humans she does not know. She is very wary of men and takes to females much faster, but on occasion will meet a man that she immediately accepts. I already invested $2000 into board and train, and we keep up with training her daily. She is good on a leash (requires a prong collar) and has made lots of progress with "heel" and ignoring other people/animals. She knows sit, and stay. She is being trained and has lots of progress with "place" (essentially stay, but for her bed or another specific area). She is nearly there with "come" as well - only is an issue when outdoors. She has an e-collar and e-collar training for off-leash work/play outdoors only. The only command trained with an e-collar is come, and only used outside. She is a really good girl. I regret that I have to rehome her, but the reality of our life is that our family has a LOT going on, with lots of children and a new baby coming, serious health concerns that have just arisen, jobs are up in the air/changing, travel is an unfortunately an unavoidable and frequent requirement for the foreseeable future, and this dog is not being treated like she should be. Of course, being a dog, she comes after the needs of our children, which means she receives even less than she deserves right now. Being a dane, she does not need extensive exercise, however seeing as how she is a puppy, she has relatively high energy and she does require daily walks and a fenced yard (she loves to sprint). Without her exercise needs being met (which is impossible at present and only will become more difficult for our family), she is a chewing hazard which requires constant monitoring - and with multiple other children in the home and a new baby coming, this has also become an unreasonable task and has lead to her spending far too much time daily on lead, in her crate, or otherwise not getting the training attention required in her youth in order to be an excellent mannered adult dane. She is a small dane, and her food costs are about $50 - $60 dollars per month. This will increase, but I do not see her monthly food cost increasing past $80 dollars per month if she is kept on her current food (very high calorie per cup/excellent composition for danes/significantly less poop daily!) There is no rush to rehome her, and I am very serious about her going to a good home. I have invested lots of time, money and energy into her, and the only reason I am rehoming her is because I want her to be part of a family that can invest *even more* time and attention into her than I presently can. I know plenty of irresponsible dog owners who would think my dog is well taken care of at present and even spoiled - these are not the dog owners I am looking for, for her. That being said, there is an appropriate re-homing fee (no, it won't be the same as the local pound charges) and interview process that will be assessed. Basic dog ownership best practice knowledge is required (you've owned lots of dogs, OR you've taken the time and studied literature and methods etc) because she is a large breed. An inappropriately behaved or violent chihuahua is no big deal, but those qualities in a large breed are dangerous to every human and animal that comes into contact with the animal - so your future training methods and past experience is important. She is unspayed as I was planning on breeding her before life turned upside down! Being a large breed, she shouldn't be spayed until she is close to 2 yrs old and the longer you can wait is better. I was never going to do it. Of course, the choice will be yours once she is yours. Please feel free to call or text if you are interested.
