MILAN, MI — A 43-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Milan, Michigan, has died from complications related to the coronavirus, officials said Friday. John Ng on April 6 went into respiratory failure at the Milan facility where he was housed as an inmate and was evaluated by institutional medical staff. He was later transported to a local hospital for evaluation. While at the hospital, Ng tested positive for the coronavirus, officials said. On April 11, Ng's condition worsened and he was placed on a ventilator, officials said. On Friday, Ng, who officials said had long-term, pre-existing medical conditions, died. Ng had been sentenced in the District of Minnesota to a 14-month prison term for conspiracy to commit transportation to engage in prostitution and conspiracy to engage in money laundering, according to a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice. He had been at the Milan facility — which is considered a low security facility and houses more than 1,400 male offenders — since Oct. 9, 2019.
