Description
Rose is approximately 1 year old. She is spayed, FIV/FELV negative, vaccinated, and microchipped. Rose’s story is tragic, but her future is bright. While trapping feral cats from a huge colony, we saw this small black cat who we didn’t recognize. Sure enough, she went straight into the trap, desperate for a free meal. Feral cats are typically silent once trapped. This cat meowed pathetically, seeking reassurance from her captors. Sign number one—this is a friendly cat. Once back at our house, I offered my hand to her. She rubbed against the trap trying to reach me. Sign number two. A feral cat would be too stressed to eat in front of me. This girl DEVOURED a can of food within seconds. Sign number 3. I began petting her and she gratefully licked my hand. The most glaring sign yet! This cat was dumped. Looking at a huge feral cat colony where we see sadness and desperation, someone else saw an opportunity to dump the house cat they no longer wanted. People can be so awful. Rose was spayed and for the first few days she ate every morsel of food in sight. She growled at other cats and guarded the food bowls. She thought the food would run out, leaving her starving again. Now that she’s been with us for a few weeks, her appetite has returned to a normal and she no longer guards the food. Initially she was stressed by her cat roommates, but now she has taken a motherly role, grooming them and rubbing against them happily. Rose isn’t the most photogenic so she doesn’t stand out to most people. This is the only misfortune of black cats. Her personality is sweet and unassuming. She doesn’t love to be picked up, but rather petted gently from her cozy bed or windowsill. She always greets me when I enter the room. And best of all—she still licks my hands every day! Her ideal home has another mellow cat(s) and a window where she can bask in the sun. She would be a good addition to most homes with other cats. She is not a bully and she’s not a pushover. She is very low energy and spends a lot of her napping in her favorite bed or sitting with me on the couch. She wants to feel loved and to heal her broken heart. Sometimes I’ll reach out to pet her and she recoils as if she’s been struck. I expect that fear to wash away into trusting head rubs with time. I promised her we’d find her a wonderful home. She deserves nothing less. If the post is up it means she’s available! Please apply and bring her home! https://airtable.com/shrYh3pOavsDH31zl (copy and paste link into your browser)
