Description

Parenting is TOUGH. Kids are STRESSED. Looking for helpful tips? Interested in participating in research? If so, then you may be eligible to participate in a study to help improve mental health outcomes for children! This study can be completed TOTALLY ONLINE. Researchers in the psychology department at Florida State University are currently recruiting parents of children aged 8-13 across the United States for a virtual treatment aimed at helping kids manage stress through small, simple changes in some common behaviors for both parents and kids. For example, we may ask parents to reduce how often they check their child’s grades or ask children to reduce how often they compare their grades to classmates or friends. Participants will meet with study team members for 1 or 2 (depending on group assignment) 30- to 60-minute Zoom calls during which we will make these suggestions for behavior changes. We will ask both you and your child to try to make some of these behavior changes over the next 4 weeks. We will send you text messages asking you to rate how well you’ve done at changing your respective behaviors during those 4 weeks. We will also ask you to complete some online surveys before and after your study visit. At the end of the study, we will use your and your child’s survey responses to send you a report form detailing your child’s mental health symptom scores compared to their peers!
