SAN JOSE, CA — A Spam-based snack shop will open Tuesday morning in San Jose near San Jose State University, city officials said Monday. Hapa Musubi (pronounced moo-soo-bee) is holding its grand opening at 11 a.m. in Unit 50 of 200 S. First St. on Paseo de San Antonio. Musubi is Hawaii's well-known Spam-based snack food and Hapa Musubi's owners Liz Ruiz and Nam Ngo fell in love with it when they first visited the Hawaiian Islands, according to city officials. Ruiz and Ngo believe it to be a perfect food for busy students on a budget. Hapa means to be half-Hawaiian, according to Hapa Musubi's website at hapamusubi.com.
