This energizing introductory workshop teaches you the design thinking process and how it applies to unlocking your full potential and positively impacting your local community. What is design thinking? Design Thinking is an operating system (both model and mindset) for helping individuals and organizations realize their full potential. It is a creative, people-centric, and iterative process that is especially useful for addressing complex problems and identifying innovative solutions. It is specifically designed to promote success when navigating through environments of constant change. You will learn: Key aspects of the design thinking processHow design thinking helps you unlock your full potentialHow design thinking helps you impact the local communityWho should attend: Students interested in careers focused on community impactBusiness leaders and changemakersCommunity leaders and organizersForward-thinking nonprofit leadersPresenters: Brittany VanderBeek is the Manager of Impact at Hagerty, where she leads the Corporate Citizenship program and facilitates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. She completed the Stanford design thinking executive education program as part of launching Michelin’s Customer Innovation Lab and is excited to combine this with her passion for community impact in Northern Michigan and beyond. Steve Rice is a faculty member in the Business Division at NMC who has received formal training from Stanford in Design Thinking & Designing Your Life. He is also a co-founder of The PLAYground, a platform for empowering “Type H” innovation in education. Nick Beadleston is theExecutive Director of Commonplace, a community innovation hub that helps deepen relationships between forward-thinking non-profits and mission-driven businesses. Will Kitchen is the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Winona State University. His varied career includes consulting for the Belgium Government, as well as numerous businesses and nonprofits. Will also served as IBM's General Manager of Learning and Leadership Development in India.
