CHARLOTTE, NC — The Carolina Panthers have a new head coach, according to reports.
Matt Rhule, head coach for Baylor University, was hired by Panthers owner David Tepper, making him the team's fifth coach in history and its first coach to come from the collegiate level, the Charlotte Observer said.
Former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was fired before the end of the 2019 season.

The news of Rhule's hire comes days after it was announced that Rivera has been tapped to lead the Washington Redskins in a move to turn that team's fortunes around. The Redskins, who haven't been in a playoff game since 2015, finished the 2019 season 3-13.
