Press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: Seniors, In this atypical year, there are many issues on the ballot. From the pandemic response to the movement to end racial and social injustices, it is more apparent than ever that we must share our voices and choose our leadership. For many of you, this will be the first time you've been old enough to vote. Make your voice matter. In 2016, millennials reported feeling especially disillusioned by both presidential candidates. This may have explained why young voter turnout was so low. But it is important to remain encouraged, show up and make your voice heard. Voting is much than a symbolic act. It is more than an Instagram photo. We're choosing who we trust to make decisions about our lives. Here are just some of the races on the ballot besides the choice for president: City and country government positions that are responsible for the day-to-day services that we receive Judicial elections State legislators who draft and vote on state laws, including many that impact our school district Governor of N.C., who is in charge of running the state, including managing budgets and COVID-19 responses Please make a plan to vote. There is power in the voices of informed, persevering and engaged youth. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Visit the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections site for more info.
