Newton Public Schools Receives $175K Gift From NSF

NEWTON, MA — Newton Public Schools has received a gift of $175,000 from the Newton Schools Foundation (NSF), the largest gift made to the district from NSF since it was founded in 1985. The annual donation was presented to the Newton School Committee at its Feb. 7 meeting and accepted by School Committee members. "I know I can speak for all the members and say how invaluable the Newton Schools Foundation is for the Newton Public Schools," said School Committee Chair Tamika Olszewski. The mission of NSF is to advance excellence and equity in the Newton Public Schools by making grants in three strategic areas, including new classroom approaches, professional development, and programs addressing inequities associated with race, income level, and social identity. According to the foundation's presentation, NSF has awarded 29 new grants since the start of the school year that will impact over 12,000 students across all grade levels.
